This article is part of a series of recommended steps to troubleshoot firewall issues. Start with step 1.

To create a firewall rule enabling a blocked connection directly from your log files, follow the steps below:

  1. Activate advanced logging
  2. Create a firewall rule from the log files

Activate Advanced logging.


II. Create a firewall rule from the log files

  1. Click Tools → Log files.

    Version 16.0 and earlier users: Click ToolsMore tools. Click Log files

  2. Select Network protection from the drop-down menu and find the entry for the communication you want to unblock. Right-click the entry and select Don't block similar events in the future.

  3. A notification window in the bottom right corner of your screen will notify you that a new firewall rule for this exception has been made. To view the new rule, click Open rule editor.

    Alternatively, press the F5 key, click Network ProtectionFirewall, expand Advanced and click Edit next to Rules

  4. When you have finished creating firewall rules from your log files, disable advanced logging. Repeat the steps and click the toggle next to Enable Personal firewall advanced logging to disable it (step 6).

    Alternatively, click Open advanced options in the Network protection notification window that will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen.

    Ensure you disable advanced logging. It can generate a large file if you do not disable it.
